NARD13 - SARAJEVO
On Sunday, June 4th, more than 150 cities around the world celebrated the 13th National Animal Rights Day, better known as NARD. The aforementioned event was also celebrated in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through the Association for Animal Rights and the Environment "EVA", whose representatives, together with volunteers and other activists in the field of animal rights and protection, drew the public's attention to the great importance this event has.
NARD was commemorated on Suzan Sontag Square in front of the National Theatre in Sarajevo, by exhibiting photos of animals that are exposed to torture and inhumane behavior in various industries on the daily basis, and whose lives in most cases ended in brutal death. Interested citizens had the opportunity to learn about the topic of animal rights protection and symbolically sign the Declaration on Animal Rights, which, although not a formally adopted document, represents the international framework on which national legal acts in this area are based. The event continued in the form of a peaceful protest walk through the city and then socializing at the concept bar KUTCHA in Skenderija, where participants and other attendees enjoyed a vegan barbecue and discussed important topics related to activism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In this sense, we would like to thank the volunteers and all the other participants at this year's NARD, Concept bar KUTCHA, the Association of Vegans ''VivaBiH'', the Organization ''Panter'', the company Biona&Biond as well as the numerous media who supported the mentioned event and shared news about it with the wider public. We would also like to thank the main organization of this event "Our. Planet. Theirs. Too.'' which entrusted us with the realization of NARD in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We plan to continue celebrating NARD in the upcoming years, and we hope that the public in Bosnia and Herzegovina will recognize its importance so that interest in this event will grow even more.
