Victory! Marc Jacobs bans reptile skin and ostrich feathers
PETA commends Marc Jacobs for his compassionate decision to sever ties with the cruel animal industry and encourages other designers to follow suit. This resolution was reached following PETA's provision of exposés to the company, revealing the horrendous conditions endured by reptiles and other animals exploited by the fashion industry. These creatures face electroshock, blunt force trauma, and even skinning alive. Each ostrich- or reptile-skin accessory represents an individual subjected to a life of suffering, agony, and squalor before meeting a gruesome end.
PETA investigations have shed light on the barbaric practices within the fashion industry, such as inflating live snakes, bludgeoning them with hammers, and slashing them with razors. Additionally, workers are documented hacking at crocodiles' necks, inserting metal rods into their heads, decapitating conscious lizards with machetes, and electrically stunning ostriches before slitting their throats in front of their traumatized peers.
Marc Jacobs now joins a growing cohort of leading designers and retailers—including Burberry, Chanel, Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, Nordstrom, Stella McCartney, Victoria Beckham, and Vivienne Westwood—who have prohibited the use of reptile skins and other wildlife products in their collections.
