LATVIA BANS
FUR FARMS
VICTORY!
🇱🇻 The Parliament of Latvia, known as the Saeima, supported a total ban on breeding animals for fur in Latvia, which will come into force in 2028. In the last 10 years, the Animal Rights Association Dzīmnieku brībīva led a campaign to ban fur farming with the support of 42 thousand people and 50 non-governmental organizations, who signed an open letter to the Saeima.
🦦 Currently, every year in Latvia, at least 300,000 minks are killed for fur, as well as several hundred foxes and chinchillas. The number of fur farms operating in Latvia and the number of animals raised on them have been decreasing in recent years. For example, the total number of animals on fur farms in 2017 was 617 thousand, in 2020 – 580 thousand, and in 2022 – 274 thousand animals.
🎉 Congratulations to Dzīvnieka brībīva on a successful campaign!
CARE Conference
Late in August, the EVA team attended the CARE conference on animal rights in Europe, that was held this year in Warsaw. 🐮🇵🇱
During 3 days of the conference, our team had the opportunity to attend lectures, workshops and exchange experiences with activists from all over the world in order to improve the living conditions of animals. ✊✊✊
This conference helped us a lot in continuation of our campaigns and in raising the awareness of both the public and the authorities, so that the problem of animal rights in BiH would finally be recognized as such. ❗️❗️❗️
