Margherita Restaurant Goes Cage-Free – A Step Toward a More Ethical Menu
Margherita, a restaurant based in Sarajevo and well known for its outstanding pizzas, desserts, and catering services, has taken an important step toward a more sustainable and humane food offering. From now on, they will use only cage-free eggs in all their meals. This decision is more than a change in ingredients – it is a powerful statement that high-quality food should come from sources that respect animal welfare, the environment, and ethical values.
In cage systems, laying hens spend their lives in cramped conditions, unable to move freely, spread their wings, nest, or express natural behaviors. Cage-free systems, on the other hand, allow significantly better living conditions – more space, natural light, and the freedom to behave naturally, which greatly improves their welfare.
This decision is part of a broader initiative—the Chicken Revolution campaign led by the Organization for Animal Rights and the Environment EVA. The campaign aims to eliminate the use of cages for laying hens in Bosnia and Herzegovina, raise public awareness, and encourage businesses to make compassionate choices. By supporting this campaign, Margherita joins a growing number of restaurants, hotels, and food providers who are proving that it’s possible to thrive in business while respecting animals and the planet.
From now on, every pizza, dessert, or meal served at Margherita carries an added value – an ethical one. Food we love can be not just delicious, but also kind. We invite other restaurants and hotels to follow this example and be part of a movement for a fairer future, because every decision matters, and change begins with one choice.
